Food and Books. The 2 hot topics that whiz around my head and consume me at an almost nightmarish level at this time of year. It is like an anniversary for the Word God and the Food God, a 3 day celebration of their union where well written phrases and nicely crafted offerings of food are on display for all to enjoy.
Let me explain. For the past 4 years running, our well known, hand-made products have featured at the Byron Bay Writers Festival in a catering stall with the other few food vendors. We love this festival. We are very popular here.
It’s visual, its scenic and it is inspirational. But what the ticket holders don’t see, is scary, hectic and enough to send us all to an early retirement. We work around the clock for a week. Perhaps it is because I know what to expect now, but I am tired already and the festival has only begun. So much to do.
Whinging aside, my favorite day is Sunday. My work is done by then and I am free to roam as the masses do and hear the stories of those who write. Last year, I watched an “In conversation with” starring Sam Cutter (ex manager of the Rolling Stones) and Domenic Cacciola (an ex member of the Queensland police force). Their tales drew me in. The parallels were uncanny. I just had to buy their books and meet them at the signings. I wonder, this year, who will inspire me. If only it was Sunday today. But a mountain of work awaits me and I am bound to my duties.
Until then, come grab an Eggplant and Fetta Ball or a Lamb Filo Roll and listen to a writer speak in panoramic surroundings You too may be consumed. You too may be inspired.
